About Coffee and Bee Champions

Coffee is not just a beverage; it’s a cornerstone of Uganda’s economy. It contributes significantly to foreign exchange earnings and GDP, supporting the livelihoods of over a million smallholder households and generating millions of related jobs. However, this vital sector faces threats, particularly from climate-related challenges, endangering the livelihoods of countless farmers.

In response to these challenges, the Coffee and Bee Champions Initiative was born. This initiative, spearheaded by the Africa Coffee Academy, aims to revolutionize coffee farming in Uganda by integrating beekeeping. By doing so, we seek to enhance crop yield, diversify income sources, promote sustainability, and contribute to biodiversity conservation.

Our Mission

The Coffee and Bee Champions Initiative is dedicated to empowering smallholder coffee farmers in coffee growing regions of Uganda. Through tailored training and support, we equip farmers with the skills and resources needed to thrive in the face of adversity. By integrating beekeeping with coffee farming, we not only increase yields but also create opportunities for additional income through the sale of honey and other bee products.

What We Offer

Tailored Training: We provide comprehensive training in sustainable coffee farming practices integrated with beekeeping techniques.

Income Diversification: Farmers can expand their revenue streams by selling honey and other bee products.

Sustainability Promotion: We promote sustainable farming methods and biodiversity conservation, ensuring the long-term health and resilience of ecosystems.

Capacity Building: Our initiative offers capacity building programs that address various aspects of farmers’ livelihoods and farming practices.

Subsidized Inputs: We provide subsidized apiary farm inputs to support farmers in their endeavors.

Market Linkages: We facilitate market linkages, connecting farmers with buyers to ensure fair and profitable transactions.

Our Purpose

We are committed to helping smallholder coffee farmers in Uganda adapt to the challenges posed by climate change, such as pests, diseases, low crop yields, limited livelihood options, and biodiversity loss.

Our Ambition

Our ambition is to empower smallholder coffee farmers to establish centers of excellence that integrate coffee production with beekeeping. By doing so, we aim to improve crop yields, foster economic empowerment, conserve biodiversity, and promote sustainability.
